Scientell was the media partner for the 2016 and 2017 AMOS conferences, managing media liaison, sponsorship and a trade exhibition.
Client: Australian Meteorological & Oceanographic Society (AMOS)
Audience: Australian media, conference delegates, government and business
The 2017 AMOS conference had the theme ‘Australasian weather, climate and oceans: past, present and future’. The conference ran from 7-10 February at the Manning Clark Centre, Australian National University in Canberra. Approximately 450 delegates attended.
As media partner, Scientell prepared a media alert prior to the conference, spoke to and emailed more than a dozen journalists, assessed all abstracts and selected some 25 most newsworthy presentations, issued five media releases during the conference, acted as a contact point for media liaison before and during the conference. Scientell and other delegates regularly tweeted, resulting in the conference ‘trending’ prominently in Australia and New Zealand.
Scientell researched and compiled a database containing over 130 names and addresses of potential sponsors and exhibitors. We created and distributed a sponsorship and exhibition flyer that described the various levels of sponsorship available and the associated benefits as well as details of the exhibition.
The conference attracted seven sponsors, representing over $66,000 in support. There were nine exhibitors.
In conjunction with the Australian Science Media Centre, Scientell organised a national online media briefing on Black Saturday and Great Barrier Reef bleaching.
