Cross-location visual communication training

Scientell conducted a half-day visual communication training workshop for researchers at a government organisation simultaneously in Canberra and Brisbane. The workshop, connected online across the 2 locations, provided tips on written and visual science communication, best practice principles and hands-on exercises on sketching and designing science-based infographics.

Client: A government research organisation

Audience: Researchers

Description

Communicating science visually is an increasingly important way to reach a broad audience and increase the impact of complex research.

Scientell ran a tailored half-day workshop for researchers to help them increase the impact of their science through visual products such as infographics. We provided context on key science communication principles, described the benefits of visualising science and provided tips and tricks for making science visuals accessible and engaging.

Workshop attendees undertook hands-on exercises to sketch their infographic, keeping their audience, key messages and narrative in mind. After providing a live demonstration of the design software Canva, participants practised using the program to turn their infographic sketches into creative and engaging designs.

Innovative Features

The interactive training was provided in person at the Canberra and Brisbane by 2 Scientell staff. The 2 workshops were then connected online to create a shared experience for the researchers across both sites. This style of workshop helps foster a sense of collaboration for teams spread across multiple locations and is an innovative approach in an increasingly digital world.
